History and Mission
Our History
Established in 1990, the Cadillac and Kellogg for Youth Committee is part of the Michigan Community Foundations’ statewide Youth Project (MCFYP) funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. This program was initiated to build community foundation capacity, to establish youth as philanthropists, and to build permanent and growing funds within each community to meet local youth needs.
Through fund-raising efforts by the Cadillac Area Community Foundation, and the matching funds captured through the generosity of the W. K. Kellogg challenge grant, the Youth Fund had a balance of over $1.4 Million on September 30, 2014. Interest and dividends earned from this fund are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations within the Cadillac area to fund projects and programs that impact and improve the quality of life for, area youth. The grants are awarded by the Cadillac & Kellogg for Youth Committee, an advisory committee to the Cadillac Area Community Foundation.
Our Members
The Youth Committee is made up of area youth and represents the geographic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and educational differences within the community. There are also adult advisors who assist the youth as needed.
Our Mission
The purposes of the Youth Committee are to train young people in decision-making skills, to provide a forum for youth interests and needs, to commit resources for youth projects and programs, and to involve youth in both volunteerism and philanthropy.
The National Standards Seal by our name indicates official confirmation from the Council on Foundations that we have met the most rigorous standards in philanthropy. It affirms our commitment to financial security, transparency and accountability. It says our grantmaking includes an open, competitive process designed to address the changing needs of our community. The National Standards Seal also confirms our history of honoring donors’ wishes.
