Shop with a Hero is an annual event that takes place in mid-December, bringing together 100 students from five school districts—including Manton, Mesick, Lake City, Cadillac, and McBain—with 80 dedicated volunteers. This program is made possible through the generous support of various organizations, including Walmart Charitable Giving, Cadillac Area Community Foundation, Cadillac Youth Advisory Committee, Missaukee Youth Advisory Committee, United Way, and the Rotary Club of Cadillac, which collectively contribute $15,000.
During this festive occasion, each student is paired with a volunteer “hero”.
This includes members of local Fire Departments, Police Officers, Emergency Workers, DNR staff, Habitat for Humanity volunteers, Cadillac Leadership Class participants, Cadillac Men’s and Women’s Giving Circles, Love Inc., Oasis, Alliance for Economic Success, Cadillac Youth Advisory students, and Chamber Ambassadors. Together, they embark on a heartwarming shopping experience.
Each student receives $150 to shop for gifts.
This fosters a sense of joy and community spirit. In addition to the shopping experience, Walmart generously provides all the necessary fixings for a Christmas dinner, ensuring that families have everything they need to celebrate the holiday season together.
This event is a wonderful example of community collaboration, highlighting the commitment of local organizations and volunteers to support youth in the area, creating lasting memories and positive experiences for all involved.
